Echoes of Time: A selection of Photographs

25 September - 27 October 2025
Overview

This fall, Gilman Contemporary presents Echoes of Time, a group exhibition featuring photographs by Stephen Wilkes, Ellie Davies, Nick Brandt, Maggie Taylor, Michael Massaia, and Jim Westphalen. Each artist captures the passage of time in a distinct and powerful way, offering viewers a meditation on memory, transformation, and impermanence.

Maggie Taylor utilizes technology to construct surreal and playful digital allegories, while Stephen Wilkes compresses hours into a single frame, revealing the shifting rhythms of light, place, and human activity. Ellie Davies transforms forest landscapes into dreamlike spaces, and Nick Brandt's elegiac portraits of animals and vanishing environments underscore the urgency of our relationship with the natural world. Michael Massaia's haunting nocturnal scenes and Jim Westphalen's poignant studies of rural decay speak to solitude, resilience, and the fragile beauty of what remains.

At once elegiac and visionary, Echoes of Time reflects on photography's unique power to preserve, reimagine, and echo the fleeting moments that shape both personal and collective histories.
