Overview
Michael Massaia’s black and white photographs combine a clear artistic vision and mastery of photographic process. Creating a feeling of intimacy between photographer and subject, Massaia asks us to remember a past that has been irrevocably changed by the passage of time. Whether a portrait of a phone booth or pinball machine, a vacant hotel, or a deserted path in Central Park, Massaia breaths life and light into the dark and inanimate. The luminous nature of silver gelatin prints is paired perfectly with each of his subjects. With meticulous attention to every detail, Massaia directs the viewer into a cinematic story that is familiar and yet new. A master of the science and craft of photography Massaia’s silver gelatin and split toned contact prints are unmistakable and pulse with life.
