Flávia Junqueira
12 Oct - 16 Nov at the Zipper Galeria in Sao Paulo, BrazilMeer Art, 23 October 2019
The work of Flávia Junqueira focuses on the photography of installations designed by the artist and mounted in-situ in theaters and spaces of cultural and historical relevance. Throughout her career, Junqueira's production has been marked by the presence of elements that recall childhood: balloons, soap bubbles, pinwheels and merry-go-rounds, set in a backdrop of stunning landscapes and monumental architecture. The culminating effects are images that are at once dreamlike and real. Working mainly in the domains of staged photography and installation, Junqueira's imposing large-format photographs conjure feelings of whimsey, joy, and enchantment, drawing us into a realm of magical realism. Her photographs encourage us to create, in the tiny openings of adult life, spaces in which instrumental reason is suspended and replaced with the unbridled imagination of a child.
Flávia Junqueira lives and works in São Paulo. She holds a PhD in Visual Arts from the Institute of Arts of the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), a Masters in Visual Poetry from the University of São Paulo (USP), and graduated in with a Bachelor of Arts in photography from the Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation (FAAP). She is part of Fidalga workshop under the direction of Sandra Cinto and Albano Afonso.
Internationally recognized, Junqueira's works are featured collections of museums and cultural spaces including MAR-Rio de Janeiro, MAM-Sao Paulo, MIS-Sao Paulo, MAB-FAAP, Itamaraty Museum, and Figueiredo Ferraz Institute.
