Bastiaan Woudt: Introducing Bastiaan Woudt

29 January - 25 February 2026
Overview

Gilman Contemporary is pleased to introduce the work of Dutch photographer Bastiaan Woudt to the Wood River Valley.

Born in the Netherlands in 1987, Bastiaan Woudt has emerged as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary photography. Entirely self-taught, Woudt has cultivated a refined, monochromatic aesthetic that feels both timeless and sharply modern. His work, which spans portraiture, fashion, and landscape, is defined by an elegant restraint: compositions stripped to essentials of light, shadow, and form.

Woudt’s work stands at the intersection of haute couture and high art. His photographs have been featured in international titles such as Harper’s BazaarBritish VogueNuméro NLL’Officiel, and New York Magazine. He has also produced commercial campaigns for Chanel, demonstrating how his refined eye translates from gallery to glossy page.

Beyond his fashion and portraiture, Woudt is equally devoted to long-form projects that explore human identity and resilience. Rhythm, perhaps his best-known project, highlights the interplay between texture, pose, and persona. Using fashion as both vessel and veil, Woudt demonstrates how identity is shaped, adorned, and sometimes obscured by what we wear.

The selection of works on view at Gilman Contemporary highlights Woudt’s fascination with silhouette and geometry. Elegant female models pose with carefully chosen props, assuming striking positions that balance elegance and drama. In this exhibition, viewers enter a distilled dream world where light, shadow, and form reveal the silent power of elegance through the distinct visual language of Bastiaan Woudt.
