Felipe Jácome

In the last 15 years working as a photographer, I have focused on telling the stories of people affected by armed conflicts, migration, and environmental devastation. My documentary practice has been based on the production of photographic essays combining a wide array of elements and techniques to enrich the narrative of the story and connect with the public on different levels.

 

Felipe Jácome is a photographer born in Ecuador whose work explores issues of human mobility, human rights, environmental degradation, and the destructive nature of war.

 

The UNBROKEN project is a result of an artistic collaboration between Felipe Jácome and Svitlana Onipko, a photographer and dancer of the Ukranian National Ballet. Their works capture the grace and the horror of displaced Ukrainian ballerinas in the midst of a devastating war. Having met during a photoshoot in Kyiv two years before the start of the war, they connected over their love for photography. For this project, the artists transfer images of displaced Ukrainian ballerinas onto bullet casings. The strength, resilience, determination, and beauty of the dancers is juxtaposed with the senseless violence, brutality, and destruction inflicted by the bullets.  

 

The photographs of the Unbroken project will be sold to raise funds for relief and recovery efforts in Ukraine.
